IAAP & NAADAC are committed to advocating for the best interests of its members, clients, communities and the profession overall. Without the dedicated advocates who stand up for the profession, our members will not have a voice.

At the National Level, NAADAC has worked closely with members and their staffs to advance legislation that promotes access to effective, science-based, clinically appropriate care for all who suffer from substance use/addiction disorder and co-occurring diseases. Here is what they are working on:
- Ensuring that the Affordable Care Act is not repealed until there is a substantive replacement that meets the needs of those with substance use and co-occurring disorders and that insurance parity for substance use and co-occurring disorders are fairly and effectively implemented and monitored.
- Growing and developing the addiction professional workforce in the 21st century.
- Increasing federal funding levels for addiction prevention, treatment, recovery, and research programs.
IAAP & NAADAC believe that advocacy is the lifeblood of securing and sustaining the addiction profession and uses the following list of components as tools to empower addiction-focused professionals and educate policymakers:
- Public policy (bills, rules, and regulations);
- Budget and funding of addiction and co-occurring related services;
- Communication of the mission of the addiction profession and the addiction professional; and
- Strategies for recruitment, retention and training toward workforce development.
Without the dedicated advocates who empower the profession, our members and their clients will not have a voice.
